BikeMob Ride

Here is the plan:

We will provide T-shirts for the 1st 50 riders to check in. Each bike will be outfitted with a rear rack advertisement (attaches to the seat post).

We will be promoting the release of the upcoming movie Hanna.

The first 50 riders to arrive will also receive a complimentary complete tune up from MyBike in 2011.

We’re going to arrive at Northern Avenue at Fan Pier between 12-12:15. (there is a parking lot/area to pull into to get organized).

There we will hand out T-shirts, free tune ups and outfit the bikes with the racks/ads. Make sure to wear something red in case you aren’t the 1st 50 to show up.

We will leave at 12:30 and set out on our route to Fenway in a single file line (to draw attention, but stay courteous to drivers and pedestrians). Once we get the the park around 1-1:30, we will ride around the stadium and then all gather in front of Jillian’s to collect racks/ads and either join us inside for the game or go your own way.

All are welcome to join us at Jillian’s to watch the Red Sox game after we’re done. Come on in for a drink or an app, we should have a good time.

Make sure to wear a helmet!

Also, make sure you tell all your friends and family to look out for us. Again, we’re providing prizes to the best picture/vid tweeted at us with the hashtag #MyBikeMob. You can alternatively email us the submission at dan@mybikeboston.com

Tweet this up, talk about this on facebook, invite your friends. This should be a good time.

New Office, Old Stories

We added a new office to the MyBike mix back in December of 2010. The holidays hit coupled with the snowiest winter in recent history made it hard for us to decorate the place. I couldn’t take the nakedness anymore so I opened up a bike box to hang a bike on the wall and a flood of memories hit me all once.

Inside the box was one of the original bikes I imported back in 2007. I was surprised that I still had one… let alone a new one. It made me reminisce to the earlier years of the company and why I imported bikes in the first place.

Being a bootstrapping bike entrepreneur I had to work a day job in the winter to fund the business. I had an exclusive bike agreement with Decathlon Cycle, plenty of advertisers lined up for the upcoming bike rental season, and a rock solid system in place to meet the rental demand. I hopped on the train to start my morning trek to work, sat down and read the paper. Front page news: DECATHLON IS CLOSING NORTH AMERICAN OPERATIONS. Not a great way to start my day, especially. I actually quit my job to work figure out my next move.

Later in the week I evaluated my options with my business advisors (a bunch of really successful entrepreneurs) and we came to the conclusion that MyBike would make its own brand of bike which would be imported from overseas. Being a 26 year old guy, it felt sexy to say that I was importing bikes. Making a really, really, really long story short, the bikes arrived and this bike is reminder of that trying period in the life of MyBike.

MyBike’s Concierge Service

We created a short video showing our Concierge Service in action. In this video Steve is delivering a repaired bike to a customer. I (LeRoy) came along for the ride to provide the stellar video footage.

Quickly, our Concierge Service offer customers in Greater Boston a convenient bike pickup and delivery option. Customers take advantage of our Concierge Service because:

  • Their bike cannot be ridden (flat tire, chain issues, brake issues, etc.)
  • They don’t have a car and don’t want to bring their bike on the train or in a cab
  • It’s raining (hey, we feel for you)
  • They have a job and that’s where their bike failed them and that job is not near a bike shop
  • It’s affordable
  • It’s easy to use

Stationary Bike Repair

We just repaired a stationary fitness bike. It had a broken crank arm, and a crank bolt snapped off in the bottom bracket spindle. To remove the broken bolt we drilled a pilot hole into the center of the broken bolt. Then we threaded a screw extractor into the pilot hole and used it to un-thread the broken portion of the bolt out of the spindle. Finally, we replaced the crank arm and bolt.
